The challenges of beekeeping in Hama

Bee-keeping began in earnest protectors since 1987, where the number of cells, according to figures from the Directorate of Agriculture in 2004 / 17437 26 434 Cell modern and old cell, and production amounted to 281 tons of honey.

While the number of cells in 2005 to 21 099 and 26 359 new cell old cell production rate was 176 tons.

The year 2006 witnessed an increase in the number of old and new cells and increase production to 235 tons. But the result of years of drought, low rainfall levels, which impact negatively on the growth of pastures and the growth of wild flowers production fell to 127 tons in 2007 and 135 tons in the 2008 season and then decreased to its lowest level in 2009, where output fell to 150 tons.

In this context, affirms Mohamed Akram Akkari Chief of the Division of bees and silk in the Department of Agriculture, said that weather conditions, climate change and successive years of drought is one of the underlying causes of the decline of production in addition to the phenomenon of lost bees where View phenomena strange Valenhalp go does not come back for unknown reasons and need for further research and study .

Akkari also attributed the causes of this phenomenon to the existence of multiple sources of the queen, this genetic mixing leads to a certain strain and capable of sensing range, including the genetic Alanazalat as a result of genetic mixing due to import of queen bees are fertilized at random.

The Akkari that these factors combined have led to the decline of production and the withdrawal of a large number of educators from this sector to reach is currently to 1500 educator distributors in the areas of free himself, and protectors, and the Masyaf, and the town of Ain Hlakim of 200 educators and the number of cells to 15 thousand cells per production up to 70 tons per year.

Referred to the suffering of the beekeepers in Hama is concentrated in the high cost of production requirements and specific wood of Sweden, who made him the cell, which can fetch up to 2500 Syrian pounds and the limited experience of educators in this area reflected negatively on the profitability of production from the point of how to use medicines and pesticides to combat certain diseases that affect bees and especially Alfaroa and non-availability of some medicines and high prices on the other.

The problem of marketing is one of the major challenges facing the project beekeeping is what makes this product subject to control traders, and the competition honey importer and an unknown source is a major obstacle for local production and thus lack of policy to promote this product will lead to their withdrawal from this sector and the reluctance of much of the educators to keep up.
